Arles

A Provençal gem on the winding curves of the River Rhone, Arles is an historic city packed with UNESCO-listed monuments and artistic connections. Arles revels in its remoteness, a relaxing sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of larger cities. The landscapes, buildings and atmosphere are drenched with Provençal culture, and history buffs will be in their element with a plethora of historic monuments located in the Centre-ville area. Evidence of habitation dates to 800BC, and the Roman baths and Amphitheatre are a must-see on any city itinerary. Testament to the city’s beauty, artist Vincent Van Gogh produced over three hundred paintings during the short time he lived here.
