Rotterdam
Rotterdam is a huge port on the North Sea and the Netherlands’ second largest city with a wealth of ultra-modern architecture. After being levelled in World War II, Rotterdam has been rebuilt to incorporate its shipping history; remnants of which can be discovered in the Old Harbour, and to embrace the future in designs like the iconic De Rotterdam building. Learn about local building design at the Netherlands Architecture Institute or about Rotterdam’s maritime heritage at the Maritime Museum. Take a tour of Rotterdam’s rich art history in one of its many outstanding museums such as the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, or make a trip to the village of Kinderdijk to see the Windmills of the Netherlands.
