St Petersburg

Towering where the River Neva meets the shoreline of the Baltic Sea, St Petersburg has been an important Russian hub since being founded by Tsar Peter the Great in 1703. It is now the most northerly city in the world boasting, amongst other wonders, one of the world’s largest and oldest art galleries, the Hermitage, housed in six historic buildings along the Palace Embankment on the river. Find things to do in St Petersburg: visit the Peter and Paul Fortress and Cathedral on Zayachy Island, stroll the canals, or relax in one of the city's elegant parks during your time here.
