Daily Itinerary:

DAY 1 – ZERMATT/RIFFELALP
Welcome to Switzerland!  On arrival into Zurich airport, hop onto a train to Zermatt via Visp, then head over the road to the Gornergrat station and take one of the steepest cog railway lines in the world to Riffelalp. From there, take the historic Riffelalp Tram to your hotel. Enjoy the breath-taking views of the Matterhorn and relax in the peace and tranquillity. Enjoy dinner at one of the resort’s great restaurants and settle in for the night. (Overnight in Riffelalp)

DAY 2 – GORNERGRAT DAY TRIP
Spend a leisurely day in the mountains today, and depending on the season, perhaps take a dip in the heated outdoor pool and relax in the spa. Ride the Gornergrat Cog Railway to the top and take a short walk through some beautiful alpine scenery, or head down the mountain and explore the picturesque Swiss village of Zermatt.  Stay here for dinner then retire back to the Riffelalp resort for your final night on the mountain. (Overnight in Riffelalp) B

DAY 3 – THE GLACIER EXPRESS
After breakfast, head down the mountain and board the famous red panoramic train carriages and travel the full-length of the Glacier Express line. The train passes glistening blue lakes and quaint Swiss hamlets, as well as crosses numerous high passes and mountain peaks. Take pictures of the spectacular Landwasser Viaduct as the train rolls over. On arrival in St. Moritz, make your way to your hotel and check-in for a two-night stay. In the evening, perhaps enjoy a stroll around the lake or experience the glitz and glamour of the casinos. (Overnight in St. Moritz) B

DAY 4 – THE BERNINA EXPRESS
After breakfast, embark on one of the world's most scenic train lines, heading south into Italy. The Bernina Express is a spectacular journey from the snow-capped heights of the Alps down into the lush Poschiavo Valley and vineyards surrounding Tirano. Stop in Tirano for a traditional pizza before returning north again on the Bernina Express as the awe-inspiring scenery changes drastically in the afternoon light. Make sure your camera batteries are fully charged because you are guaranteed to capture some amazing shots from the comfort of the panoramic carriages of the train. (Overnight in St. Moritz) B

DAY 5 – END OF TOUR
Time to say goodbye to Switzerland, as you board a train back to Zurich or elsewhere in Switzerland.  Contact one of our Rail Experts if you might like to extend your vacation with additional days in a different city and we can assist with all the details. B

Since the 19th century, guests have considered the Riffelalp as an exclusive place for peace and relaxation and they appreciate the diversity between sports activities, pleasant relaxation and the luxurious delights that the Riffelalp Resort 2222m offers. "A day well spent in the Alps is like some great symphony", said Mount Everest pionneer George Mallory. The British mountaineer enjoyed the high alpine freshness in the summer and was a five-star guest at Riffelalp high above Zermatt.

Arriving is an experience in itself. As the rack railway climbs and the commotion of the village is left behind, sit back, relax and enjoy the majestic view of the Matterhorn. In the summer, the highest tram in Europe waits at Riffelalp station to take you on what is probably the shortest tram ride in the world to the Riffelalp Resort. In the winter, our porter will be happy to pick you up on the skidoo. Or you can make use of the short walk through the picturesque forest to listen to the silence of Riffelalp for the first time.
