Nimes

Nimes is a lovely Provençal city with a long history dating back to the Roman Empire. Roman remains here include France's largest and best preserved amphitheatre, the Maison Carrée and the Pont du Gard - a magnificent aqueduct displaying three tiers of arches that span the river from a height of 49 metres. There are plenty of things to do in Nimes. Start by unearthing international gems at the art gallery, the Musée des Beaux Arts de Nimes, and strolling through the Jardins de la Fontaine, an 18th century formal garden set around the ruins of Roman Thermal baths.
