Arrive in Zurich and check in for an overnight stay at your hotel. Maybe peruse the shops along the Bahnhofstrasse, famed as one of the most attractive shopping streets in the world or marvel at the works of Van Gogh, Rodin and Monet at the much-loved Kunsthaus art gallery. After breakfast this morning, take the train through the Swiss and Austrian Alps over the famed Arlberg Pass. This spectacular journey travels along the bank of Lake Zurich before you are greeted with spectacular Alpine scenery. You briefly pass through Liechtenstein before entering Austria. Travel along the Arlberg Pass, through mountain meadows and be delighted at every turn by the wonderful vistas. Upon arrival, check in for an overnight stay at your hotel. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, Innsbruck has gained a reputation as an impressive Austrian holiday destination due to its fantastic winter sporting events and impressive historical monuments. Board the train today in Innsbruck for the short and incredibly scenic journey to Mayrhofen via the world-famous Zillertalbahn narrow gauge railway. The train changes in Jenbach and the remainder of the route will have you passing through the vast valley bottom, surrounded by verdant meadows and charming small towns. After breakfast this morning, set out to explore beautiful, walkable Mayrhofen. While the town is best known for its renowned winter skiing, there is much to discover any time of year. In the warmer months, take the cable cars to the top of the mountain for incredible views and lovely hikes and walks for all activity levels. Enjoy another scenic train journey today through Austrian valleys and mountain peaks as you travel from Mayrhofen to Hallstatt on the Zillertalbahn Railway. Take the scenic journey back through Jenbach, then board the Transalpin train and journey past the gorgeous lake side town of Zell am See. Make one additional change in Stainach-Irdning before arriving in Hallstatt. On arrival, check in at your hotel for a three-night stay and settle in for the evening. (Overnight in Hallstatt) B

You may think you’ve left regular life and been transported into a fairy-tale while wandering through the pristine village of Hallstatt. Located on Lake Hallstatt’s western shore, it’s 16th century Alpine houses and alleyways are now home to inviting cafes and shops. The walkable village provides the perfect base for discovering the sights of the surrounding area as well. Take the funicular railway that connects to Salzwelten, an ancient salt mine with a subterranean salt lake, and experience the views at the Skywalk Hallstatt viewing platform. After breakfast this morning, spend another day enjoying Hallstatt. Take the trail that leads to the Echern Valley Glacier Garden, a relic of the last Ice Age, formed as the glacier receded 12,000 years ago. Visit the mega ‘ice caves’ of nearby Krippenstein Mountain, formed over thousands of years as snow has melted into giant crevasses. Take the day to enjoy the sights of Salzburg using your included city card. Head for the old town looking over the Salzach River, with its cobbled streets of little shops. Fans of composer Mozart can visit his birthplace, now a museum dedicated to his life and work showcasing various fascinating exhibits.
