Daily Itinerary:

DAY 1 - ROME
Welcome to Rome!  On arrival make your way to your hotel and check-in for your two-night stay.  Perhaps head to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, or ancient Pantheon.  In the evening perhaps head over the beautiful Piazza Navona for dinner on the site of an ancient Roman stadium.  (Overnight Rome)

DAY 2 - ROME
Today explore the riches of the Vatican museum, the wonder that is the Sistine Chapel and the jaw dropping beauty that is St Peters Basilica.  After your tour, perhaps head over to the huge Colosseum and be amazed at the world of Gladiators.  Stroll through the Forum and enjoy your final night in the Italian capital. B

DAY 3 - MILAN
After breakfast hop onto the highspeed train to Milan, and on arrival check-in to your hotel for one-night.  Take a walk to see the impressive Duomo, then perhaps bowl of pasta and a local aperitif before bed.  (Overnight Milan) B

DAY 4 - THE BERNINA EXPRESS
Take the local train from Milan to Tirano, and here change onto the famous red Bernina Express train heading north into Switzerland.  The train winds its way from the lush Poschiavo valley over some of the highest mountain peaks in the Swiss Alps to St Moritz and offers some amazing views along the way.  On arrival make your way to your hotel for two nights.  (Overnight St Moritz) B

DAY 5 - ST MORITZ
From May till October visitors spending two nights in St Moritz are rewarded with a complimentary travel card, which gives them unlimited use of the local transport system during their stay, including the very scenic cable-car from Corviglia - Piz Nair.  St Moritz of course has much more to offer than spectacular views, and a walk around the beautiful lake and through the historic town centre are highly recommended.  (Overnight St Moritz) B

DAY 6 - THE GLACIER EXPRESS
Head to the station for a day aboard the slowest express train in the world - The Glacier Express.  The train takes 7.5hrs and cross some of the most breath-taking scenery Switzerland has to offer.  Enjoy lunch onboard before arriving in the mountain resort of Zermatt and make your way to your hotel for a two-night stay.  In the evening perhaps head to the main street ‘Bahnhofstrasse' for a fondue.  (Overnight Zermatt) B

DAY 7 - THE GORNERGRAT COG RAILWAY
Make the 33min journey from 1,604 metres to 3,090 metres above sea level today onboard the Gornergrat cog railway and enjoy one of the most spectacular panoramas in Switzerland.  The iconic Matterhorn and surrounding mountain peaks have been the inspiration to many, and air up here is some of the cleanest in the world.  Head back down the mountain and enjoy your final night in Zermatt (Overnight Zermatt) B

DAY 8 - LUCERNE
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, then take the train to Visp, then onto Bern.  Leave your bags at the station and take a few hours to explore the cobbled streets of the quaint Swiss capital, or head straight onto Lucerne for a two-night stay.  The medieval wooden bridge can't be missed and is thing of beauty.  The old town of Lucerne has a good selection of traditional swiss restaurants and ale houses to enjoy in the evening.  (Overnight Lucerne) B

DAY 9 - MOUNT RIGI DAY TRIP
In the morning take to the water with an hour's scenic cruise across lake Lucerne to Vitznau, and here board the oldest mountain railway in Europe to the top of Mount Rigi.  This little train has been carrying passengers up ‘The Queen of the Mountains' since 1871 and really is a joy.  Once at the top, you enjoy some truly breath-taking views of the lake, surrounding mountains and on a clear day, Italy and Germany.  There is a lovely traditional restaurant for lunch.  On your decent take another scenic train ride to the town of Art-Goldau then a train back to Lucerne, or if you're feeling adventurous hop off at Rigi Kaltbad and take the cable car to Weggis from where there is a 15-minute walk to the boat cruise back to Lucerne.  (Overnight Lucerne) B

DAY 10 - END OF TOUR
Make your way to the station after breakfast and take the direct train to Zurich airport for your flight home, or speak to any of our Rail Specialists if you'd like to extend your travels elsewhere B
