Dar es Salaam, once a fishing village, is now a bustling coastal city and important port in Tanzania whose name derives from Arabic for “abode (home) of peace” The open-air Village Museum re-creates traditional homes of local tribes and hosts tribal dancing. It's part of the National Museum, which displays Tanzanian history and includes fossils found by anthropologist Louis Leakey.
