Turpan

Turpan was an important stop on the Silk Road, due to its location in the centre of a fertile oasis. It benefits from a stunning setting, surrounded by the Flaming Mountains. Turpan is also an excellent base from which to explore the ruined city of Jiaohe, a natural fortress located atop a steep cliff which was abandoned in the 13th century following a raid by the assembled hordes of Genghis Khan.
