Ashgabat

Ashgabat is the capital of Turkmenistan and is today known as the “Las Vegas of the Kara Kum desert”. The city was founded in 1881 and became the capital of the then Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic in 1924. The city was devastated by a large earthquake in 1948 but has since been extensively rebuilt.
