Family Bedroom

First Class Family Rooms span the car's width and fit two adults and two children (ages 2–12). By day, enjoy seating for four; by night, two upper and two lower beds. Rooms include large windows, upgraded bedding, and access to a private restroom and shower.

Accessible Bedroom

For First Class customers with a disability, Accessible Bedrooms are on the train's entry level and offer ample wheelchair space. Each room features seating by day that transforms into upper and lower beds by night, a large picture window, upgraded bedding, pillows, towels, linens, an accessible in-room sink, a restroom, and access to a private shower.

Restrooms and Showers

All rooms have access to restrooms and showers. Bedrooms and Bedroom Suite accommodations have an in-room private bathroom with a toilet, shower, sink, and vanity. Accessible Rooms have an in-room sink and restroom, with shared shower access just outside the room. For superliner roomettes and family bedrooms, the shared bathrooms and showers are just down the hall.

Complimentary Meals

Meals are included when you're in a First Class private room. Amtrak's onboard dining services offer a wide variety of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Learn more about your dining choices, onboard dining reservations, and the different types of dining cars.

Lounge Access at Amtrak Stations

Available at major stations, lounges offer comfortable seating, refreshments, and access to a dedicated agent before your trip, when making connections, and upon arrival. You'll also enjoy complimentary non-alcoholic beverages, snacks, and free WiFi. Plus, you'll have 'skip-the-line' access to the train tracks.

Dedicated Car Attendant

Onboard Amtrak, your dedicated Sleeping Car attendant will greet you during boarding and provide turndown service, assist with meals, help you with luggage, and share great stories of life on the rails.

Traditional Dining

Traditional dining service is provided in the Dining Car on the Auto Train, California Zephyr, Coast Starlight, Empire Builder, Southwest Chief, Sunset Limited, and Texas Eagle (between San Antonio and Los Angeles). Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served. As an exclusive offering, customers in Private Sleeping Rooms enjoy complimentary meals throughout their journey.

Dining Cars feature seasonal menus with a variety of entree selections. Vegan meals are available in limited quantities for traditional and flexible dining services. Complement your meal with a wide selection of beverages, including beer, wine, and spirits for sale. Don't forget your complimentary wine with dinner, and be sure to leave room for dessert — there’s something to satisfy every sweet tooth. Café service is available to both Coach and Sleeping Car customers along these routes, offering a variety of meals, snacks, and beverages for sale.

Making Reservations

Customers on routes with traditional dining service can make reservations for lunch and dinner — served in the Dining Car or by complimentary in-room service on some routes. Once onboard, your Amtrak car attendant will take your reservation times. Effective The Dining Car will offer communal seating, providing a unique opportunity to dine with a fellow rider.

Meal Times

Breakfast: Available 6:30 – 9:30 am; board by 9:00 am
Lunch: Available 11:30 am – 2:30 pm; board by 2:00 pm
Dinner: Available: 5:00 – 9:00 pm; board by 8:15 pm
A ‘last call’ is made 15 minutes before the period ends. Exceptions may apply based on the train schedule or in the event of a delay.

What's included in a First Class private sleeping room?

In all rooms, daytime seating converts to beds at night. Electrical outlets, climate controls, reading lights, a small closet, and a fold-down table are all within easy reach. Bed linens and soap are included, as are Dining Car meals, bottled water, coffee, and assistance from a Sleeping Car attendant.

How many people can a private room accommodate?

With the exception of Family Bedrooms (2 adults & 2 children age 12 or under) and Bedroom Suites (up to 4 adults), all Sleeping Car rooms accommodate 1 or 2 travellers.

How much does a private room on board cost?

The prices of private rooms on Amtrak vary depending on the type of room you reserve, your travel destination(s), when you are departing, how far in advance you make your reservations, and more! In general, we recommend that you make your reservations as far in advance as possible to secure the best rates. Railbookers can book your vacation up to 24 months prior to your departure.
