Darvaza

In the heart of Turkmenistan's Karakum Desert lies the Darvaza Gas Crater, famously dubbed the "Door to Hell." This fiery pit, approximately 70 meters wide and 30 meters deep, has been ablaze since 1971 when a Soviet drilling mishap led to its ignition. Initially set alight to prevent the spread of methane gas, the flames were expected to extinguish within weeks but have continued for decades, creating a mesmerizing, otherworldly spectacle. Despite its remote location, the crater has become a significant tourist attraction, drawing visitors intrigued by its eerie glow and the stark beauty of the surrounding desert landscape.
