To Rome, in the footsteps of Gladiators
After a rainy day in Florence, I felt relieved seeing bright rays of the sunshine stream through the window of the high-speed Eurostar Italia train as it pulled up to Rome Termini station.
I decided to take advantage of the weather and make the leisurely walk to my hotel, the Modigliani. My room had a beautiful balcony overlooking Rome and with the hotel being next to a convent, it felt like an oasis of peace and quiet in the middle of the bustling city. After enjoying my complimentary welcome drink in the garden, I decided to head out for some sightseeing, with the Colosseum being first on my list. Thankfully, I had booked some tickets ahead of time, so I was able to quickly skip the long line of tourists and go directly inside. Inside, I was confronted by thousands of years of history.
Not having seen anything like it before, I felt inspired to explore the city’s marvellous art, culture and artistic grandeur. Just walking around this city filled me with inspiration as I came across masterpieces by Michelangelo, Raphael and Bernini. My last stop was the Vatican Museum to see the beautiful Sistine Chapel. Walls of frescoed rooms and amazing statues were on every corner – you could easily spend a day or two here! The first capital of the world in my mind is one of Europe’s greatest cities, full of star attractions, museums and churches that left me wanting more.
